Increasing enrollment, satellite campuses, expanded on-campus housing and new academic buildings are prompting a close look at Binghamton University's transportation and parking needs.

With safety as a primary consideration, Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates has been hired to help the campus gather input and make recommendations for how vehicles should be able to navigate on campus, mass transit and how to best utilize space for parking.

Nelson/Nygaard is soliciting input from individuals and groups across campus to make recommendations for an integrated approach to transportation and parking services that will provide a plan for comprehensive transportation and parking to improve access and circulation. When developed, the plan will help Binghamton University provide a safe, sustainable environment for our growing community.

The study will look at campus geographical challenges with the intent to better connect parking, public spaces, and the University Downtown Center and Innovative Technologies Complex to the main campus.

In addition to considering parking and transit needs, Nelson/Nygaard will look at current pedestrian flow, bicycle use and car-sharing to understand the role they play in safety and traffic flow on campus and between campuses.

Individuals or organizations who wish to provide input are encouraged to do so online. The final report is expected from Nelson/Nygaard in May 2014.
