OK. It's time to think green.

Here are some financial aid must-dos and other money matters you need to know.

Student loan information

If you were offered a Federal Direct Student Loan and you want to use these funds toward your spring bill, you must:

STEP 1: Accept the loan online at BU BRAIN Self Service via the portal by logging into my.binghamton.edu no later than Friday, Dec. 21.

  • Click on the BU BRAIN icon (top of the page)
  • At the main menu, click on the Financial Aid tab
  • Select "Award" and appropriate aid year
  • Go to "Accept Award Offer" and accept/decline loan offer(s)


STEP 2: First-time loan borrowers: Complete the Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (MPN) and Entrance Counseling at https://studentloans.gov no later than Monday, Dec. 23, 2019. 

Complete unsatisfied requirements

You must complete FAFSA or verification-related requirements (other than loan-related requirements) no later than Jan. 14 to ensure timely disbursement of aid once spring 2020 classes begin. While aid may still be disbursed after that date, late fees may apply.

To check whether you've completed all the requirements, follow these steps: 

  • Login to the at my.binghamton.edu
  • Click on the BU BRAIN icon (top of the page)
  • At the main menu, click on the Financial Aid tab
  • Select "Eligibility" and appropriate aid year
  • Click on "Student Requirements"
  • Complete any "unsatisfied" requirements

Haven't applied for financial aid for 2019-20?

It's not too late to file your 2019-2020 FAFSA and/or apply for the New York state Tuition Assistance Program (New York state residents only) in order to take advantage of federal and state aid. Make sure you use the appropriate codes:

  • FAFSA Code: 002836. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to correct a processed FAFSA or call 1­-800­-433­-3242.
  • NYS TAP, select "SUNY Binghamton Undergrad." Go to http://www.hesc.ny.gov or call 1­-­888­-696­-4372 to correct a processed application.

Other loan options

A Federal Direct Parent or a private/alternative loan are financing options available to help with educational expenses. If your financial aid offer indicated eligibility for a Parent PLUS Loan and/or an alternative loan, they will be listed at the top of the online award offer page.

About your bill

Your spring 2020 e-bill notification will be sent to your Binghamton University email account (BMail) on Thursday, Jan. 2 with a due date of Wednesday, Feb. 5. For more details regarding payment and due dates, visit Student Accounts.
