Alumni golfers enjoy camaraderie, raise money to fuel future dreams
By Steve Seepersaud
More than 120 golfers — representing the alumni and local Greater Binghamton communities — teed it off at the 2014 Alumni Golf Classic, held Aug. 1, at Vestal Hills Country Club. The Alumni Association thanks them, as well as the many sponsors and volunteers, for making the event a success.
Team Blodgett (pictured) with members Andy Hutchings, Thomas Hackett '08, Jim Blodgett and Ian Bel '06, MBA '07, won the tournament with an amazing team score of 54. You can see photos of the 2014 tournament at our Shutterfly site.
Held each summer, the Alumni Golf Classic raises money for the Alumni Association's Legacy Scholarship fund, which benefits the children of Binghamton University alumni. After several years of fundraising, the Alumni Association is able to award the scholarship for the first time. Teaghen Buscemi '17, the inaugural scholarship recipient, and her mother Julie Buscemi '88 attended the tournament's dinner and reception. Read more about Teaghen in Binghamton University Magazine and see a short video featuring Teaghen and Julie.
The tournament's major sponsors were: Binghamton University Athletics, Binghamton University Bookstore, Dick's Sporting Goods, Elite Group Tours, Food & Fire BBQ - Taphouse, Hillcrest CARSTAR Collision Center, Huff Ice Cream, Inc., Laser Eye Center, Lupo's Spiedies, Miller Auto Team, Jose Moreira '00, MBA '03 and Felicia Moreira '01, MA '02, Red Newt Vineyards - David Whiting '86, Sodexo Campus Services, Standing Stone Vineyards - Tom '78 and Marti Macinski, and the Binghamton University Alumni Association.
