Help us recognize and celebrate alumni excellence
By Steve Seepersaud
Is there a Binghamton graduate who makes you feel especially proud of our University? Do you know of someone in our alumni community whose accomplishments are truly extraordinary and worthy of recognition by the Alumni Association?
We invite you to submit a nomination for our 2016 Special Recognition Awards program. Each year, we present four signature awards to recognize outstanding alumni who have excelled in service to their professions, communities, the University or Alumni Association.
The Glenn G. Bartle Distinguished Alumnus/a Award recognizes and honors a graduate who has distinguished himself or herself since graduating from the University and serves as a memorial to Dr. Glenn G. Bartle, the first president of Harpur College. This award honors alumni who have performed outstanding voluntary service to the Binghamton University community, while also serving their communities, their careers and their country.
The Edward Weisband Distinguished Alumnus/a Award for Public Service or Contribution to Public Affairs recognizes one alumnus or alumna each year whose life, work, career and contributions exemplify the highest standards of service and deepest dedication to the sustenance of the common good.
The Alumni Achievement Award honors a highly distinguished alumnus or alumna who has exemplified outstanding, significant professional achievement.
The Lois B. DeFleur Distinguished Young Alumni Award recognizes graduates from within the last 10 years who are established alumni leaders or demonstrate potential to become future leaders. Criteria include demonstrated leadership capability, substantial commitment to service of others, demonstration of potential for leadership in the long term, and substantial commitment to the University and Alumni Association.
Please view detailed award eligibility information and instructions for submitting your nomination. The deadline is 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Sept. 11. If you would like to submit a nomination, please carefully review the individual criteria and eligibility information for each award and what is required of each nomination package. In April 2016, we will honor the award recipients at a special ceremony on campus that will be attended by nearly 300 closely engaged alumni volunteers, our campus partners, President Harvey Stenger and members of the University's senior leadership team. Each year, a prominent Binghamton graduate serves as the ceremony's keynote speaker. Past keynote speakers have been Rep. Hakeem Jeffries '92, CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin '90 and accomplished stage and television actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson '78.
Please contact Melinda Holicky, associate director of alumni volunteer engagement, with any questions about our awards program.
