Sam Sussman, an 18-year-old from Orange County, coolly delivered an address supporting gay rights in October 2009 at the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. The politics, philosophy and law major had earned the spot in the march by winning an “Equality Idol” contest on YouTube in which he discussed the importance of gay rights.

On Nov. 20, the Tau Alpha Upsilon Alumni Society held an event at Heartland Brewery's Times Square location in Manhattan. About 85 brothers got together for an evening of networking, food and TAU-tinis.
The BU Zoo went on the road on Dec. 6 to cheer on the men's basketball squad during its game at Rutgers University. The Alumni Association sponsored a bus from Manhattan to the game site in New Jersey. Alumni gathered at a pre-game reception before watching the Bearcats defeat Rutgers 66-56. Alumni got together in Manhattan on Dec. 22 for a Hanukkah Happy Hour. HIllel at Binghamton hosted the evening of drinks, dreidels, gelt and more at the Social Bar in midtown.
On Dec. 28, 45 alumni boarded a bus from Binghamton to the Buffalo Bills' home game against the New England Patriots. The group was part of the total attendance of 71,282 at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The fans braved 55 mph winds while seeing the Bills lose to the Patriots for the 11th straight time. The 13-0 decision gave the Bills a 7-9 record for 2008. A Miami Dolphins win later in the day eliminated the Patriots (11-5) from the playoffs.
