During the last weekend of April, the Alumni Association Board of Directors met in Binghamton. The directors and alumni office staff recognized board members whose terms of service expire on June 30. Alex Huppe '69 (at right of photo with board president Anthony S. Kendall '83, MBA '85) will be serving on the Foundation Board of Directors.
Gerald Putman '76, MBA '84 - (pictured at right) a long-time University volunteer - leaves the Alumni Association Board of Directors after several years of service. The Association also thanks Paul Aversano '93 and Samir Shah '00 for their time on the board. Starting July 1, the alumni board will include Arlene Barnard '90, Margaret Lamphere Bellville '76, Anita Gutwein '02 and James Stehli '88.
The Alumni Association made a West Coast swing during the first weekend of May. On Friday, the association held an alumni gathering in San Jose, Calif., with special guest Prof. Edward C. Kokkelenberg, Bartle Professor of Economics. Edward Lopez '89 sponsored the event, which included cocktails and conversation about today's economic outlook. The following day, alumni gathered for a San Francisco Giants baseball game at AT&T Park; a pre-game reception took place at Pete's Tavern. The weekend's activities ended with a cocktails and conversation event featuring Prof. Kokkelenberg; Rick Frey '76 and Dr. Margaret Kane sponsored this Sunday event in Sacramento, Calif.
On May 9, the Harpur's Ferry student ambulance squad held a service in memory of Dr. John P. Pryor '88, who served our country as an Army trauma surgeon in Mosul, Iraq when he was killed by a mortar round on Christmas Day 2008. Those who attended the service dedicated a plaque at the University's Memorial Courtyard. While a student at Binghamton, Pryor was a member of Harpur's Ferry and Sigma Nu.
The Alumni Association held its first event at Queens Theatre in the Park on May 9. Alumni enjoyed a pre-show reception featuring passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails with a 1940s theme. After the reception, our group saw the staged production of The Philadelphia Story. Queens Theatre in the Park is the premier indoor performing arts center in Queens, and is located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park next to the Unisphere. Jeffrey Rosenstock '76 is the theatre's executive director.
On June 4, the Alumni Association held a Law Alumni Reception in New York. Eric Lobenfeld '71, Jeffrey W. Rubin '71, Philip E. Altman '79 and the Harpur Law Council sponsored this event at the offices of Hogan & Hartson in Manhattan. Provost Mary Ann Swain and Harpur College Dean Donald Nieman served as guest speakers.
