Alumni Association Special Recognition Awards
The Binghamton University Alumni Association annually recognizes alumni for their outstanding achievements and service to the University and community through our Special Recognition Awards Program. The Alumni Association welcomes nominations for our four signature awards listed below.
We are accepting nominations for our 2018 awards; the submission deadline is Monday,
Sept. 18, 2017. Self-nominations will not be considered. Alumni can only be nominated
for one award each year. Recipients will receive their awards at a special recognition ceremony.
Eligibility criteria for each award, as well as nomination instructions, appear below. Questions about our awards program should be directed to Melinda Holicky, associate director of alumni volunteer engagement, by e-mail or by calling 607-777-6206.
Instructions for submitting a nomination
You have the option of submitting your nomination online or downloading a nomination form (links appear below) and returning it to us after completion. Before submitting a nomination, please carefully review our award criteria.
Please note that for all of the awards listed below, the nominee must be a graduate of Binghamton University. Self-nominations will not be considered. In addition, the nominee may not be a current member of the Binghamton University Alumni Association Board of Directors or currently employed by Binghamton University. Alumni can only be nominated for one award each year.
Nomination packages need to include:
1. Nomination Form
2. Nominator's recommendation statement (up to two single spaced pages) indicating why the nominee is deserving of the award.
3. Nominee resume or biography and additional background information
4. Letters of support are strongly encouraged. Please submit a minimum of two and maximum of five. Limit of two pages per letter.

The Glenn G. Bartle Distinguished Alumnus/a Award recognizes and honors a graduate who has distinguished himself or herself since graduating from the University and serves as a memorial to Dr. Glenn G. Bartle, the first president of Harpur College. Nominees must have provided outstanding, exceptional voluntary service to the University as well as exhibited excellence in his or her field and/or service to society. The Alumni Achievement Award honors a highly distinguished alumnus or alumna who, over the course of a decade or more, has exemplified outstanding, significant professional achievement. The Edward Weisband Distinguished Alumnus/a Award for Public Service or Contribution to Public Affairs recognizes one alumnus or alumna each year whose life, work, career and contributions exemplify the highest standards of service and deepest dedication to the sustenance of the common good. The Lois B. DeFleur Distinguished Young Alumni Award recognizes alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and are 35 years of age or under, who are established or demonstrate potential to become future leaders. Nominees must have provided outstanding voluntary service to the University and/or Alumni Association as well as exhibit demonstrated leadership capability, substantial commitment to the service of others, and possess potential for leadership in the long term.
