Binghamton University stands out for a lot of reasons: its academics, stellar faculty and students, and a sense of connection that inspires the vital culture of giving that keeps the University going and thriving.
The Binghamton University Foundation, which raises and contributes funds that advance Binghamton’s mission, has been instrumental in keeping the University on its upward trajectory. It’s private giving that provides the crucial resources needed to enhance student life and academic excellence at Binghamton.
With this fiscal year came the successful end to Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University. I’m ecstatic to report that more than 38,000 people gave $101.2 million to this Foundation initiative to support the University, its students, faculty, programs, buildings and equipment needs.
I couldn’t be prouder of this achievement. The gifts will enable talented students to pursue an outstanding education and prepare for success in their careers and lives after graduation. These contributions also support faculty development, research programs and the greatest needs of the University.
Launched in 2005, it was only the second campaign in University history. It had a goal twice as high as the first campaign, Believe in Binghamton. Add to that the economic challenges of the Great Recession and a change in University leadership, and you have a fundraising effort that was not only bold, but at times even tested my belief that it would meet its high objectives.
Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University not only met its initial $95 million goal, but when the bar was set higher at $100 million, donors answered the call.
We surpassed our goals in a difficult environment through the hard work of many — and most important, through the generosity and commitment of everyone involved.
The work of the Foundation and its board is possible because of the support of thousands of donors who are listed in this annual report.
Thank you. You made a difference, and because of you, the University continues to be brilliant and bold, and a special place where students can nurture their passions and turn their dreams into reality.
