De-stress December 2016

We get it. Between exams, papers and presentations, your stress level is at an all-time high this semester. De-stress December is the perfect time to check out our stress-relief resources that will leave you feeling happier, more energized and more focused. It’s time to channel your inner champion and take on finals!

Free group fitness

  • All day Wednesday, Dec. 7 – Friday, Dec. 16

You’ll love the way you feel when you leave the studio — motivated, rejuvenated and empowered. With more than 100 classes offered each week, it’s easy to find a class that best fits your style, goals and schedule. Some of our most popular classes include Zumba, spin, yoga, 15-minute abs, PiYo® and Barre Burn.

Find Your Fit series: TRX Yoga

  • Noon, Wednesday, Dec. 7

Join Jenna Moore as she explains how you can enhance your yoga practice using the TRX Suspension Trainer. In this 45-minute class, you will walk through several progressions of yoga poses performed with the suspension trainer that are designed to help cultivate control and balance. This class is appropriate for beginner to intermediate yoga practitioners, but is limited to 9 participants. Students may register by sending us an e-mail. Faculty and staff must register through the University Center for Training and Development. Please dress for physical activity and wear sneakers.

Free 10-minute chair massage

  • 4:30–6 p.m. p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7

Chair massage is a quick and effective way to release tension in your back, shoulders and neck. If you’ve been staring at your computer screen for hours – take 10 minutes for a free massage! You’ll be glad you did. No appointment necessary. First-come, first-served. 

Play a round of disc golf

  • Noon, Friday, Dec. 9
  • Meet at the Recreation Center 

Join Jake Rasmussen on a crisp 9-hole round of disc golf, a popular twist on a classic favorite. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy this fun and easy-to-learn sport with the natural beauty of the East Campus wooded areas as your backdrop. Anyone at any skill level is encouraged to participate and enjoy an afternoon of disc golf.

Pool party!

Float your worries away! Grab a friend and head to the pool. Listen to our beach party themed music and relax on a noodle or swim a few laps.

Study break spin

  • 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11

Forget about your classes for an hour with our study break spin session. Come get lost in the music, have fun with the group and sweat like never before. All levels welcome. E-mail exercise@binghamton.edu or stop by the FitSpace front desk to register.

Tame the tension with Qigong

Tame the tension using the ancient holistic practice of Qigong, a moving form of meditation. Qigong allows you to settle the busy mind, restore peace and find balance again through simple movements and conscious breathwork.

Punch it out with Pink Gloves Boxing

Punch out your pent up stress with Pink Gloves Boxing (PGB), a unique fitness program for women. First-timers and beginner boxers are welcome! There is no sparring or physical contact in this workshop. Please dress for physical activity.

Zumba® for everybody

Ditch the workout, join the party! You don’t need to be a dancer to enjoy this exciting and effective cardio class. You’ll be sure to smile as you feel the rhythms of Latin and world beats during this one-hour dance party.

Meditative stretching

Restore balance in your mind, body and spirit through guided meditation and gentle stretching. This is the time to shift your attention to yourself, your body and your breath as you find calm and relaxation amid end-of-semester chaos.

Raise the bar with BODYPUMP™

  • Noon, Wednesday, Dec. 14

Get stronger with this complete barbell workout that will challenge all of your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises such as squats, presses, lifts and curls. The class format combines multi-joint weightlifting with rest periods, which is proven to provide the greatest boost of endorphins.

Yogalicious with Sodexo

This vinyasa yoga class will be accompanied by some delicious stress-fighting super foods along with nutrition tips to keep you focused throughout finals.

Hoop shoot in the pool

  • 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14

Turn the East Gym pool into your aquatic basketball court. Play solo, one-on-one, or team up for a game of horse. It’s a win-win, any way you play it.

Year-end Yoga

Find your Om. As the year winds down, our natural rhythms are calling on us to slow down, reflect and contemplate where we’ve been and where we want to go. End your semester with us for an hour of yoga and head home refreshed.
