2015-16 Engaged Faculty Fellows for Teaching Excellence
- Craft a syllabus for a new service-learning course
- Connect with local organizations, agencies, or businesses to enhance student learning in a current course
- Create a new or refined research project design that responds to a community need
- Access best practices, theory, assessments, and other resources for community engagement
- Develop courses eligible for course designation and teaching enrichment grants
- Participate in a reflective and interdisciplinary learning community
To be eligible, faculty must demonstrate departmental approval prior to enrollment (email or letter). Some preference will be given to those who develop projects with local school districts (though direct K-12 student service is not required). This program is open to those new to community-engaged pedagogy, as well as those with previous experience.

Teaching Enrichment Grants
Faculty with designated CEL or ASL courses are eligible for up to $500 to support community-based courses. These funds help curb out-of-pocket expenses that enrich student community engagement, such as community speaker honorarium, voice recorders, event supplies, transportation fees, etc. Allocated funds will be distributed after the submission of receipts by the instructor. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Engaged Faculty Speaker Series
The Center for Civic Engagement occasionally presents informal discussions during which faculty will present innovative strategies for starting and strengthening community partnerships to enrich student learning and engaged research. Faculty experienced and new to community engagement are encouraged to participate and instructors of all disciplines are welcome.

Presentations & Meetings About ASL & CEL Course Designation
Courses that have been designated as Academic Service-Learning (ASL) or Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) through the Center for Civic Engagement are now labeled as such in the BANNER online course registration system. However, in order for courses to be designated, faculty must fill out an application form. Information submitted through the application form will be reviewed by the CCE and a committee of faculty members who will provide suggestions and recommendations (if necessary) on how to ensure the course passes the designation process. If departments and/or individual faculty members would like someone to walk them through the application process, please contact Faculty Engagement Associate Jessica Arends to set up a time to meet.

One-on-one Assistance with Project and Course Development
Wondering how to incorporate a community component into your course? Not sure how to construct a syllabus for your Service-Learning class? Interested in engaging with the community is some way but not sure how to start? Need a sounding board to help you explore or develop a project in the community? Institute on Community-Engaged Teaching, Research & Scholarship
On March 18-19, 2015, Binghamton University held an Institute on Community-Engaged Teaching, Research & Scholarship. The Institute aimed to support and enhance Binghamton University's capacity for civic leadership as a public research institution. Two days of highly-interactive sessions provided a platform for critical dialogue on community-engaged teaching and research, including high impact practices and applied learning.
