Enhancing your office with Interns
Since 1972, the Binghamton University internship program has emphasized community and public service while supporting student initiative. The program offers Binghamton University students the opportunity to learn about the workplace and how community organizations function. In turn, community agencies and organizations are supported by the skills and enthusiasm of some of the brightest and most industrious students in the nation. Currently, Binghamton University partners with over 150 local agencies and organizations to provide BU students with outstanding professional experiences while supporting the objectives and productivity of the agencies with competent personnel.
Although interns are not employees and it is understood they are working in a learning capacity, many agencies have benefited, both fiscally and administratively, from the additional knowledge, creativity, and support provided by the students.

What can interns do for your agency?
Depending on the needs of your particular agency, interns can assist in enhancing the productivity of your agency/organization in a variety of ways:
- Assisting office personnel with tasks
- Create marketing tools (brochures, displays)
- Research projects
- Providing new ideas to improve administration
- Participate in and lead group counseling
- Assist in medical and dental procedures
- Identify grants/funding sources
- Prepare newsletters
- Create and maintain websites
And much much more!
For the professional internship program, interns are required to commit 120 hours over the course of the semester (10-12 hours per week) at their respective internship sites. Other internship programs have different hour requirements (Contact the Fleishman Career Center.) Because the interns receive a letter grade for their participation in the program, they must also attend a one-hour weekly seminar, under the supervision of a Binghamton University faculty or staff member. Additionally the program is supervised by a professional staff member in the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development. These dual components act as one and help ensure the academic and administrative integrity of the program, thus ensuring agencies receive the most dedicated students Binghamton University has to offer.
