De-Stress December 2013

De-Stress December is here again — which means it's time for making stress balls, getting some exercise with friends, and, of course, visits from therapy dogs! Hopefully you can find some events in this series that will help reduce the stress you may be feeling during this hectic time of the semester. Check the schedule below by specific day, or scroll through to see what Binghamton University has put together for you.

Rave it off

As the stressful finals season rapidly approaches, students need an outlet for their stress before the hard-core studying begins. This event will provide a safe environment to allow students to de-stress for success.

Saturday, Dec. 7

Learn tae kwon do
4 p.m.
Cleveland Hall, Main Lounge, Hinman College
Be guided through the basic warm-ups and moves in tae kwon do. It will offer you a chance to take a break from studying and do something active, which will improve your well-being.

Ping Pong Tournament

This tournament is a way to relieve stress with light exercise in a friendly competition with friends from throughout the building. Residents can relax with friends while watching the matches, or waiting to compete themselves.

Frost Fest

Binghamton shall be transformed into the kingdom of Westeros for one magical day, as the biggest festival of the year arrives with the help of HBO's acclaimed series, "Game of Thrones"! Joust with other knights, feast on treats, take on the Wall, pillage our goods, search for dragons and celebrate one last time before finals turns us all into zombied out White Walkers. Whether you're a Stark, Targaryen, Lannister or Baratheon at heart, Frost Fest will have something for you. So, band together with a traveling party of friends and head to the University Union to show your loyalty to your House!

Instead of avoiding your stress, learn how to reduce it  through video games! Students will learn how to identify certain styles of video games that, according to research, can actually help reduce stress.

This event will promote healthy eating and good nutrition. Students will be able to pick the type of smoothie they would like and we will make it for them using a variety of fruits and yogurts. There will also be various smoothie recipes students can take with them as well as information on the benefits different fruits have for your body.
