The decennial Census long form has been retired and has been replaced by the American Community Survey (ACS). The ACS is an annual, nationwide survey designed and implemented by the Census Bureau to give communities more current information about their demographic, socio-economic and housing characteristics. This seminar will introduce the ACS and detail items such as geographies, variables, use and serious error issues due to sampling.
Introduction to the Public Use Microdata Series (PUMS). The PUMS is an extremely rich disaggregated Census dataset. When used properly, the PUMS can be an invaluable tool for researchers. These data are particularly relevant given the recent shift toward the American Community Survey and the lack of reliability that comes with it. This seminar will highlight the benefits of the PUMS and teach best-use practices.
