Annual Binghamton Law Alumni Fall Networking Event

Last year was a great success with over 80 lawyers and law students in attendance and we expect more alumni this year!

Negotiation Skills and Techniques Workshop (During Homecoming Weekend)

Negotiation is an essential skill for many professions. This practical, interactive workshop will improve students' ability to negotiate effectively by sharpening existing skills and deepening their knowledge of fundamental principles of successful negotiation. Through exercises, role playing, and discussion, students will be introduced to preparing for and conducting negotiations to maximize the potential for making favorable agreements. We are seeking law alumni volunteers to serve as mentors throughout the workshop and observe the contract negotiations and provide feedback and critiques to the students.

On November 4, 2014, over 80 Binghamton University law alumni gathered for a networking event in Manhattan. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to connect with fellow Binghamton University law alumni, members of the Harpur Law Council Steering Committee, members of the Metro New York Chapter and Harpur College Dean Anne McCall.


Homecoming Weekend — Friday October 17, 2014
Negotiations Workshop

On October 17, 2014, through exercises, role playing and discussion, students were introduced to preparing for and conducting negotiations to maximize potential for making favorable agreements. Students gained a basic understanding of contract formation principles, learned how to identify various negotiation styles, planed and prepared for negotiation techniques, and participated in negotiation exercises. Alumni mentors conducted a debriefing of the exercises and provided valuable feedback and critiques to the students.


Law Alumni Happy Hour

On October 30, 2013, Binghamton University law alumni gathered to enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at The Hill in New York City. Attendees heard updates from representatives of the Harpur Law Council Steering Committee and the Alumni Association Metro New York Chapter while building their professional and social networks. Hosted by Alex Lycoyannis, Esq. '98, Partner at Rosenberg & Estis, P.C., Brie DeChance '04, President of Zenith Abstract, Rory Clark, Esq. '05, Licensed Real Estate Broker at Halstead Property, the Harpur Law Council and the Binghamton University Alumni Association Metro New York Chapter.

Wine & Food Pairing Pre-law Internship Fundraiser March 2013

On March 21, 2013, the Harpur Law Council hosted a Wine & Food Pairing fundraiser to benefit the Harpur Law Council Public Interest Law Internship Program at Moore Brothers Wine Company in Manhattan. The program included remarks by Interim Harpur College Dean Wayne Jones and Harpur Law Council Chair, Richard Alpern, Esq. '69. Former interns, Simon Sterling '98, Elissa Denniston'08 and Jennifer Rosen '11 spoke with alumni about their internship experiences and the impact it made on their careers. Internship site host, Rick Greenberg' 74, from the Office of Appellate Defender, spoke with alumni about the program as well.


Law Alumni Roundtable Homecoming 2012

On October 12, 2012, the Harpur Law Council sponsored a lawyer's roundtable, "Realities of Practicing Law Today," for students interested in pursuing legal careers Alumni attorneys Richard Alpern, Esq. '69, Yang Chen, Esq. '87, Scott Dinstell, Esq. '92, Wayne Greenfeder, Esq. '77, Glenn Moss, Esq. '75, Jeffrey Rogoff '90, Jeffrey Tanenbaum '73 and Frank Vellucci '94 participated in the discussion.


Law Alumni NY Reception Winter 2008

On January 10, 2008, a Binghamton University Law Alumni reception was hosted by Thomas E. Riley, Esq. '76, Joseph H. Smolinsky, Esq. '85, Frank S.Vellucci, Esq. '94, Robert S. Goldberg, Esq. '94 and Andrew Rosenblatt, Esq. '94 at Chadbourne & Parke LLP in NYC. The program included remarks by President Lois B. DeFleur and Interim Dean of Harpur College Ricardo Laremont.


Law In the Big Apple October 2007

On October 23, 2007, Binghamton University alumni attorneys from White & Case, LLP in New York discussed their legal careers and preparation for law school. Owen C. Pell '80, Partner and Adam E. Wactlar '03, Associate, spoke on the panel to roughly 25 students interested in learning more about the legal profession.


Patent Law and IP Panel Homecoming 2007

On October 5, 2007, alumni and friends discussed working in intellectual property and patent law with students interested in pursuing a career in law and technology. Panelists, Jack Klingert '83, AVP, Intellectual Property, RealNetworks, Eric J. Lobenfeld '71, Partner, Hogan & Hartson, LLP and member of the Harpur Law Council and Kevin X. McGann, Partner, White & Case LLP, spoke about their career paths and insights on this field. The panel was sponsored by the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Harpur Law Council.


"Up for Grabs"

On February 9, 2006, The Harpur Law Council and the Binghamton University Alumni Association with sponsorship from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP held the "Up for Grabs" Legal Seminar & Movie Screening. The program addressed legal issues and back story surrounding the case involving two fans who claimed possession of the ball that Barry Bonds hit to claim his record setting seventy-third home run. Martin F. Triano, Esq. '76 served as legal counsel to Alex Popov, one of the two claimants of the Bonds baseball, and was a faculty presenter for the legal seminar, along with Paul Finkelman and Michael Wranovics. Alumni Association board member Ray Russolillo '80 hosted the program at the U.S. Trust Company of New York. Jeffrey L. Tanenbaum, Esq. '73 secured sponsorship from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as provider for the NY CLE credit. From the 60+ attendees, 40 law alumni attending the legal seminar received one credit in in the areas of professional practice. Proceeds from the event were directed to the Martin F. Triano Scholarship at Binghamton University.


Law Alumni Long Island Reception Fall 2005

On November 17, a Binghamton University Law Alumni Reception was hosted by Adam L. Browser, Esq. '88, David R. Ehrlich, Esq. '96, Kimberly Mandel Malerba, Esq. '00, Robert F. Regan, Esq. '90 and Jeffrey M. Schlossberg, Esq. '81 at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. in Uniondale. The program included presentations by Dean Jean-Pierre Mileur and former Public Interest Law Interns. The young graduates spoke about the importance of their pre-law internship experience in their career choices and successes. Dean Mileur spoke on some new fundraising initiatives to support the creation of a Constitutional Law Professorship, Public Interest Law Internships, and the Faculty Development Fund.


Law Alumni NY Reception Fall 2004

On November 3, a Binghamton University Law Alumni Reception was hosted by Rick B. Antonoff, Esq. '81, David E. Bolen, Esq. '90, Alan S. Gaynor, Esq. '87, Warren J. Karp, Esq. '70, Barry E. Shimkin, Esq. '65 at Greenberg Traurig LLP in New York City.
The program included presentations by Dean Jean-Pierre Mileur and Professor Wendy Martinek, Department of Political Science, Harpur College of Arts & Sciences at Binghamton University. Dean Mileur spoke on the new fundraising initiative to support the creation of a Constitutional Law Professorship.
