$10,000 Screenwriting Fellowship Opportunity for a Graduating Senior
The Michael Collyer Memorial Fellowship is awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a career in screenwriting upon completion of his/her undergraduate course of study. The recipient receives a $10,000 stipend to write an original screenplay and is mentored throughout the fellowship by a prominent screenwriter.
The fellowship is sponsored by the Writers Guild of America, East, the membership union of professional writers in film, radio, and television.
Binghamton University is one of 16 schools selected to nominate a graduating senior for this fellowship.
The nominee will be expected to complete the requirements for an undergraduate degree in the institutional area—English, film, television, communications, or related media studies—that contains the appropriate screenwriting coursework. No specific major is required.
Emphasis will be placed on students with feature film projects, which are character driven and personal in nature.
Each applicant must submit:
- A completed application form (the script registration number may be left blank).
- The first ten pages of an existing original screenplay, plus a short synopsis.
- A three page pitch for the feature film that is to be written during the course of the fellowship. (These documents may be submitted as Microsoft Word files.)
- Two written recommendations from instructors familiar with the nominee's work. Each recommender should email the completed recommendation form directly to email@example.com.
Completed applications are due by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 4:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2013. Late applications will not be accepted. A committee of Harpur College faculty members will review the applicants and select one to be the University’s nominee for the Collyer Fellowship. Please contact Associate Dean Florence Margai for questions regarding the fellowship.
