Senior center fielder Zach Blanden had four hits and four RBI and Binghamton baseball (8-12) stretched its winning streak to four with an 18-15 11-inning win over host Canisius on April 8 at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo.
In a wild five-hour game that featured five lead changes, the teams used 12 pitchers (six each) and combined for 33 runs, 27 hits, 25 walks and nine hit batters. The Bearcats surrendered a 15-12 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning before plating the final three runs in the 11th frame, courtesy of an error, two hit batters, a bases-loaded walk, a groundout and a two-out run-scoring hit by Blanden.
Freshman Jake Erhard, Binghamton’s sixth pitcher of the game, recorded the final six outs for his first collegiate victory. Erhard didn’t allow a hit and struck out three in his perfect two innings.
Blanden went 4-for-7 with a three-run home run and four RBI. Junior second baseman Reed Gamache had two hits and three RBI. Freshman DH Nick Wegmann drove in three runs, sophomore shortstop Brendan Skidmore had two hits and two RBI and junior first baseman Kyle Coronel had two RBI.
Senior right fielder Jake Thomas reached base five times and freshman left fielder CJ Krowiak scored three runs, had an RBI and tied a school record with four walks.
