Bearcats, Bonnies play to scoreless tie

The Binghamton men’s soccer team (5-4-1) finished up its non-conference schedule with a scoreless tie at St. Bonaventure (1-8-1) on Sept. 30 at the Marra Athletic Fields Complx in Olean.
Binghamton finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots. The two teams each fired seven shots in regulation but the Bearcats outshot the Bonnies 2-1 in the first overtime and 4-0 in the second one.
Junior goalkeeper Robert Moewes made a pair of saves to record his fourth solo shutout of the season.
“It is disappointing that we did not get a goal tonight but I thought our guys played very well and we are happy with the (defensive) shutout,” head coach Paul Marco said. “We were very good on the ball and in our one-on-one defending. St. Bonaventure played very organized tonight and looked the best they had all year.”
A year after finishing non-conference play with a 2-8-0 record, the Bearcats recorded a winning record over the first 10 games this season. They were held without a goal seven times during that stretch in 2014 but the tie tonight marked only the third such time so far this year.
