April 26, 2011Tweet
The Binghamton University men’s lacrosse team (6-7, 2-2 AE) clinched a berth in the America East Tournament with a 10-8 victory over visiting Hartford (8-6, 2-2 AE) on April 23, at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats’ fourth straight home victory, coupled with losses by Albany and Vermont, assured Binghamton its seventh postseason appearance. The win extends Binghamton’s winning streak to eight straight over the Hawks.
In a game that featured six ties and five lead changes, the Bearcats prevailed with two clutch scores over the final 10 minutes and shut out the Hawks for the final 14:50 to secure its second conference win.
Sophomore attackman Matt Springer tallied his eighth career hat trick to lead the Bearcats with four goals. Springer matched the program record for hat tricks set by Phil Cavallo (2003-05) and Jake Boyce (2006-09).
Junior goalie Jordan Marra notched his first start in goal since March 1 and recorded a career-high 15 saves, picking up his first win of the season.
Six different Bearcats posted a goal, led by Springer and a pair of scores from senior midfielder Frank Donlon.
