May 27, 2011Tweet
Binghamton men’s tennis senior Sven Vloedgraven saw his brilliant career come to a close at the NCAA Singles Championship on May 25 at Stanford’s Taube Tennis Center. Vloedgraven, unseeded, lost 6-3, 6-4 to 48th-ranked Kellen Damico of Texas in the first round of the 64-man event.
Vloedgraven, ranked No. 77, was making his second straight individual NCAA appearance after being among the top-125 in the final ITA Rankings. He was the only player from the Northeast competing in the singles draw and brought a 21-match win streak into the NCAA tournament.
He finished the season with a 32-8 record and his 113 career wins (113-34) are the new program standard. Vloedgraven was a three-time America East Player of the Year and two-time ITA Northeast Regional champion. Earlier in the week, he was named the ITA Northeast Region Senior Player of the Year.
