Route 201 construction update/Essential info for Moving-in Day
August 23, 2011Tweet
The Department of Transportation has announced that one lane of Route 201 will be open in each direction by midnight Wednesday, Aug. 24, allowing traffic to flow in both directions over the Route 201 bridge that spans the Vestal Parkway and feeds directly to the main entrance of Binghamton University. All ramps to Rt. 434 and Vestal Road will be open at that time.
Due to ongoing work activities in the vicinity, the Rt. 201 southbound off-ramps to Rt. 434 eastbound and westbound will be controlled with a stop sign and the Rt. 434 westbound to Rt. 201 northbound on-ramp will be controlled by a yield sign.
The signal at the entrance to Binghamton University will allow double left turns for traffic exiting the campus. However, there will be a lane closure on Rt. 434 westbound near the Rt. 201 bridge, so westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in this area.
Students and families are asked to follow directions as posted on the DOT’s permanent and portable electronic signs as they drive to campus and to allow extra time for travel due to the high volume of cars that will be entering and exiting campus.
Drivers are also reminded to come to a complete stop at all intersections as they navigate their way to campus, and if traffic appears to be backing up near the Route 17/Route 201 exchange, drivers should consider exiting Route 17 at Exit 67S (Vestal) and traveling on Route 434 East (Vestal Parkway East) to the main entrance to campus.
