Campus invited to participate in Homecoming weekend
August 23, 2011Tweet
Homecoming 2011, the premier on-campus event for alumni, will take place Friday-Sunday, Sept. 23-25. Sponsored by the Binghamton University Alumni Association, Homecoming will bring alumni, students, faculty, staff, and the local community together for a wide range of activities.
An opening mixer will start the weekend’s festivities, taking place from 5-11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in a tent outside the Events Center. Attendees can enjoy live music and the wines of alumni vintners.
On Friday at 6 p.m., the Athletics Department will hold its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the TAU Bearcat Room at the Events Center.
The Alumni Relations office is promoting Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as an open house time for alumni visitors. Alumni can use this free time to visit people and places they remember most fondly. The alumni office invites all campus offices, departments and groups to use this time to showcase what they do. To hold an open house, e-mail your information to Steve Seepersaud at firstname.lastname@example.org for inclusion on the Homecoming 2011 website.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, in the West Gym, the Alumni Association will present its annual Special Recognition Awards, honoring some of Binghamton University’s most accomplished graduates.
The signature event of Homecoming weekend will be a tailgate party outside the Events Center from 4-7 p.m. Saturday. The campus community is invited to bring grills, food, and beverages, and join a spectacle that attracts more than 1,000 people each year. Tailgate ’11 precedes the men’s home soccer game against Adelphi University at 7 p.m. A fireworks display will follow the game.
On Sunday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m., the fourth annual Kristen Faust ‘00 Inspirational 5K Run/Walk will start and finish at the East Gym fields; the event raises money for an endowed scholarship fund in Kristen’s memory. She was a senior counselor at the University Counseling Center prior to her death in 2006.
