Q: How do I send documents through the Telecommunications Office Facsimile Service?

Just bring the document to be faxed, along with the recipient's fax number to our office and fill out the fax cover sheet provided by our office.

Q: What format should the document be in?

The paper size should be 8 1/2 x 11, one-sided, no staples, no post-its. If the item to be faxed is in the form of a book, or is two-sided, make a photocopy before bringing it to the Telecommunications Office. If the document to be faxed is more than one page, please number each page. Light documents and photographs are not easily transmitted. If you have questions about the quality of a document please ask a Telecommunications staff member before transmission.

Q: Can I send a fax to a telex machine?

No, a fax machine is required on the receiving end.

Q: Are all fax machines compatible?

Most, if not all, fax machines are compatible. Since speed of document transmission does differ between machines, our machine automatically adjusts to the speed and resolution characteristics of the receiving machine. New machines transmit in less than 45 seconds per page, while older machines may take over five minutes per page.

Q: Can I receive documents through the facsimile service?

Yes. Just give the other party our fax number (607) 777-4000. Our machine is equipped to automatically answer and receive incoming transmissions. In order to notify you as quickly as possible that we have received a document for you, please have the sender include your name and number on the document. Facsimiles are received 24 hours a day. If one arrives for you after business hours, you will be notified the next business day.
