Library Annex @ Conklin
The Library Annex was established in 1999 to house important, lesser-used materials in the Libraries' collections. The items include print journals also available in electronic formats and infrequently used monographs and monographic sets. By transferring materials to the Annex, more space was made available in the existing buildings for newer and more heavily used materials and improved study spaces. The Library Annex currently houses over 550,000 volumes in a closed stack, high-density, climate controlled environment.
In the Library Catalog, materials housed in the Library Annex are indicated with the location: Library Annex – Place a Request.
Binghamton University students, faculty, staff and visitors to the BU campus, may request delivery of physical items to the Bartle, Science or the University Downtown Center Libraries. Electronic document delivery is available for journal articles or single chapters from books that are less than 50 pages.
Library Annex materials are paged Monday through Friday only. Materials requested by 8:00 a.m. will be delivered on the same day by the Library Courier. A 24-hour turn around should be expected otherwise. Paged materials will normally be held in the selected library for one week and may be used in the library or borrowed with a valid Binghamton University ID card.
Rare materials, including sound recordings that are housed at the Annex do not circulate directly to patrons. Materials from Special Collections and University Archives stored at the Annex also cannot be consulted on-site. These specially designated items are delivered to the Special Collections Department in Bartle Library so that they can be used in a secure, temperature controlled environment. For more information, contact Special Collections staff at (607)777-4844.
Regular library materials in remote storage may be used in the Annex reading room when the Annex is open. Users must present a valid Binghamton University ID card to borrow materials and a valid photo ID for viewing privileges. The stacks in the Annex are closed to patrons and browsing is not permitted.
