Doctoral Programs
The PhD programs prepare students for basic and applied research in mechanical engineering or materials science & engineering. Research areas are multidisciplinary and reflect the interests of Watson School faculty.
Current research areas include:
- mechanics and design (with emphasis on solid mechanics/stress analysis, vibrations, tribology)
- thermofluids (with emphasis on heat transfer, lubrication, materials processing and environmental/biological transport phenomena)
- materials (with emphasis on microstructural/property relationships, electronic packaging materials)
- computational mechanics (with emphasis on asymptotic methods and hybrid analytical/computational methods)
