Binghamton University kicks off the academic year with the 17th Annual University Fest

BINGHAMTON, NY -- The return of students to the Binghamton community kicks off this year with the 17th Annual University Fest, to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 28. The event welcomes visitors and the campus community to the Binghamton University Peace Quad to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year.

The festival will include carnival rides, vendor booths, children’s play area, poster sales, food, student organization tables, as well as music from local bands. The event will also feature a free book giveaway and refreshments.

University Fest organizers are also working closely with event planners for the two-day Chris Thater Memorial Races, which will also take place during ‘welcome back’ weekend in and around Recreation Park, Binghamton. Held in memory of Chris Thater, a Binghamton University student killed by a drunk driver, the event includes professional and novice cycling events, and a national class 5K run. Other activities include vendor displays, full concession, entertainment, sports/health clinics, demonstrations and other youth sports and special events. Off-Campus College Transport (OCCT) will run a free bus service between the University Fest and Recreation Park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and then again on Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. through to 3 p.m. The service will be open to students and members of the community.
