Binghamton University to host Northeast Bioengineering Conference

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host the 42nd annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference (NEBEC) in the Innovative Technologies Complex April 5-7.

This year's conference will focus on "New Biomedical Frontiers for the 21st Century," with hundreds of students, professors from over 25 universities and dozens of industry professionals from around the region expected to attend. The objective of the conference is to stimulate collaboration and promote biomedical engineering research and education programs in the northeast.

The two-and-half-day conference consists of multiple keynote and plenary speakers, research and poster presentations, and panel discussions on emerging biomedical technologies. Professionals in bioengineering, biotechnology and biomedical careers are invited to participate in a biomedical and biotechnology Career Exploration Networking Event from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5.

Speakers at the conference will include Karen Chandross, senior director of North America Strategic Initiatives & Scientific Relations for Sanofi U.S.; Richard Spencer, chief of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Section at the National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Aging; and Raphael Lee, professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and member of the National Academy of Engineering. Some of the major conference topics will be the current state of technology in key areas of biomedical science and engineering such as advanced biomanufacturing, 3D bioprinting, stem cell and regenerative medicine, organs-on-a-chip, nanomedicine, biomaterials, bioimaging, biofilms, biomechanics, point-of-care diagnosis, medical devices, toxicology and pharmacology, and computational biology.

The conference is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, NORAXON USA, The Research Foundation for the State University of New York, the Career Connections Department of the Biomedical Engineering Society, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University, and the Binghamton University Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAE) Health Sciences Steering Committee.
