Calling all cooks: Binghamton University to host NYS Chili Championship


 On Saturday, May 3 cooks all over the Northeast will flock to the Binghamton University campus for the 7th Annual Great New York State Chili Championship.  At the event, cooks will compete for the 2008 title, as well as the right to represent New York at November’s Terlingua International Chili Championship, held in Texas. All proceeds will benefit the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).

The cook-off, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Anyone with a chili recipe is encouraged participate and may enter as late as Wednesday, April 30th.  Cooks will be expected to bring their own supplies, as well as a team of friends or family to help provide samples to the public.  Samples will be available for tasting starting at 11 a.m.

Competition chili is defined as a traditional bowl of “Texas Red”, where the primary ingredients are beef, broth, and spices.  Beans and other fillers may be included in the chili samples provided to the public, but may not be included in the competition sample provided to the judges.
