|-for instrumental or vocal performance majors: two recitals.|
|-for conducting majors: one substantial work with a major ensemble, and at least two additional performances.|
|-for composition majors: two substantial compositions.|
|-for music history and literature majors: a written thesis.|
(In addition, history majors must demonstrate a reading knowledge of one foreign language [German or one Romance language]. Piano proficiency must be demonstrated by the ability to play a Bach chorale. For more information on majors and courses visit the University Bulletin.

Students must complete a minimum of 36 graduate credite hours in music with an average grade of at least a B- or above.

Offered by Binghamton University in collaboration with the Tri-Cities Opera Company, this is generally a two-year program of professional training in preparation for an operatic career. A minimum of 36 graduate credit hours in music with a grade of at least a B- must be completed. (In the two-year program, full-time students normally exceed the 36-hour minimum.)
MUS 599: Thesis
Requirements consist of:
|1. A full recital, approximately one hour in length.|
|2. Opera roles...(a) one leading role,|
|(b) two featured roles, or|
|(c) three or more supporting roles.|
