Binghamton University students research and present the history of local immigrants

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University students enrolled in the course, “Germans and Russians in New York,” will present the results of a community-based research project at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street, Binghamton. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Students in the German and Russian studies course interviewed first and second-generation immigrants who moved to the Greater Binghamton area from German- and Russian-speaking countries. To coincide with their research project, the students have collected information about everything from family recipes and traditions from the homeland, to stories about church communities and clubs, business success and becoming American.

Students will present their research findings in poster session at 6:00 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Interviewees who have participated in this study will also be in attendance.
