Pre-Health Professions Advising

The Pre-Health Professions Advising Office was created in 1966 to help students seeking entry into one of the doctoral level health professions. Over the years the services provided by the office have grown to include: curricular advising, credentialing, programming, administering special programs, and general advising about Binghamton University requirements.

If you’re considering a career in health care, you might expect to major in biological or physical sciences. However, it’s possible to pursue a non-science major as your path to a health career, provided you achieve a solid grounding in science. Generally, professional schools define such grounding as one year each of college-level inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology and English. Some schools also require a year of calculus or college-level mathematics.

The pre-health office can advise you on course selection during your time at Binghamton, as well as suggest summer jobs and provide information about professional schools in health. Our office also maintains a file of letters of recommendation, evaluations from professors and other materials necessary for professional school applications.

So, if you’re considering a career in any of these fields:

Binghamton’s Pre-Health Advising Program will take the guesswork out of pursuing advanced studies in any of these fields.

Whether you graduate with a degree in biology or history, you can use your time as an undergraduate to prepare for your chosen career. As individuals who know what it takes to be accepted by professional schools, our staff will help you map out an appropriate course of study and extracurricular activities.

In addition to individual advising sessions, the Pre-Health Office organizes:

  • alumni panels
  • discussions and workshops
  • group information sessions
  • application and interview preparation

The Pre-Health Advising Office is located in Academic B-G 18.
