The enhanced Center of Learning and Teaching (CLT) entered the second year under the new leadership with a focus on expanding instructional design support, providing focused out-reach on critical topics to instructors, and providing leadership in developing high-quality online courses. This year, the CLT added a third instructional designer with an expertise in online pedagogy. This allowed the CLT to train 75 instructors (in an intensive multi-day workshop) on using best-practice pedagogy and leveraging appropriate technology. The CLT also hosted over twenty workshops/seminars and provided extensive consulting to instructors on an array of educational and student-learning issues. The most significant achievement of the CLT was the opening of the new Learning Studio – a classroom laboratory to explore the intersection of pedagogy, technology, space, and seating. The LS has been a huge success with 20 courses taught in AY 2014/2015. In addition, it has served as a highly successful testbed for new classroom technology with many “lessons learned” on how new learning technology is actually used (or not used) thereby helping the campus to make better informed decisions regarding classroom renovations and designs. Fall 2015, 14 courses will be taught in the LS.
