Construction update

Lecture Hall Student Wing renovations complete

Renovation of the Lecture Hall Student Wing is complete. Twenty new classrooms on the first and second floors, along with break-out rooms for small group work will be available for students this fall. Lounge and seating areas were also created as part of this project, providing space for students to spend time between classes.
Windows throughout the facility were replaced; staircases renovated; and building electrical, fire alarm and heating and ventilation systems updated. Restrooms were renovated as well. 
School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

There is a lot of construction activity on the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences site. The contractor is working on the foundation, and forming and pouring the basement is under way. Steel will arrive onsite in July. Staff is also working with research hires to identify equipment and building needs. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is expected to open in fall 2018.

Corliss Ave. property

With the property site fenced and secured and removal of debris from the building, planning and budgeting efforts are under way to establish a framework for the project. The building will house the Decker School of Nursing. Design documents are complete for some initial work to restore the exterior of the building including masonry repairs and new windows. A new roof will also be installed.

Smart Energy Research and Development Facility

A new access road to the site is now open and the old drive is being prepped for parking and landscaping. Painting is nearly complete on the second floor with ceilings and lights being installed. Painting has begun on the first floor and walls are being completed in the basement. Exterior finishing work continues as well. Construction will be complete in a year.

Old Digman renovations

The contractor has finished the process of installing new windows at Old Digman. There is a variety of construction activity taking place including installation of window sills, light fixtures and exit signs, painting, data wiring and preparing the floors for tile work. This project will be complete for the fall 2016 semester.

Cayuga Hall renovations

Renovations to Cayuga Hall will begin this summer. The project involves asbestos abatement, renovation of 47 bathrooms including upgrades to exhaust, plumbing, electrical and power distribution systems. Lounge areas will receive new ceilings, flooring and lighting. Lights in bedrooms will be replaced, rooms and corridors will be painted and 240 new doors will be installed. Exterior masonry will be repaired. The building will be closed for a year with completion scheduled for July 2017.

Globalization Center/Old Champlain conversion   

Work on interior renovations is underway. Mechanical demolition is completed and electrical demolition is in progress. Interior modifications will be completed by the end of summer. The addition portion of the project is being modified based upon results of a value engineering meeting and work on the addition will start in September. Currently, departments serving international students are scattered in various locations throughout campus. This project will help consolidate those departments under one roof. Construction of the addition is due to be complete in spring 2017, weather permitting.       

A number of projects were initiated following Commencement:

MarketPlace addition

Work on an addition to the University Union MarketPlace is underway. This fast-track project involves constructing an addition to expand the MarketPlace fireside lounge area and add an outdoor patio with seating. New landscaping in adjacent areas is included in the work which will enhance the north entrance area of the University Union. Work will be complete in August.

Pedestrian safety and circulation improvements

Efforts continue to improve pedestrian safety and circulation on campus. A project under way between the University Union and Engineering Building will install new sidewalks, some landscaping and a gate for access to the UU loading dock. Speed tables and a new crosswalk are being installed on West Drive, along with some new landscaping. With the move of the berm to the Peace Quad, the traffic circle will get new landscaping and flag poles this summer. Some sidewalks around campus will also be replaced this summer.

Sanitary sewer line repairs/replacement

A contractor is repairing/replacing sanitary sewer lines in various locations around campus. This is a critical maintenance project to address aging systems to make sure key infrastructure remains reliable.

Central Heating Plant upgrades

Another critical maintenance project, upgrades are quickly progressing with the Central Heating Plant project. The contractor has completed several items including installing new fans, constructing a new electric room, building walls as part of interior office modifications and pouring the foundation for a new stack. Two new electrical rooms, a new control room and interior office alterations are part of the project. The bucket elevator used to transport solid fuel will be replaced along with the chutes and hoppers. A new pollution control stack will be built. This is the second phase of upgrades to the plant with work scheduled to be complete in 2017.
