The Division of Advancement — formed July 1 to replace the Division of External Affairs — has been advancing successful initiatives in alumni relations, development and philanthropy.

The national search for a vice president for advancement is in the initial stages. Meanwhile, Rebecca Benner has been serving as interim vice president for advancement since the division was created. During the year of transition, Benner and the division will remain focused on moving the Road Map’s philanthropy projects forward and positioning the division for future fundraising success.

Next steps include:
    • Preparing for the next comprehensive gifts campaign.
    • Rebuilding the pipeline of prospects to increase participation in fundraising.
    • Working with University leadership to establish funding priorities that align with the Road Map.
    • Building stronger partnerships with stakeholders.

As part of the transition to the new division, President Harvey Stenger also named Sheila Doyle interim executive director of the Binghamton University Foundation. The Foundation Board of Directors has taken a more active role in advising the president and will embark on a strategic planning process in support of the University. Doyle, who also has responsibility for alumni relations, will lead the Alumni Association Board of Directors in a similar strategic process for alumni engagement.
