Pre-Award and Compliance System nears launch

Binghamton University will soon launch a new SUNY Pre-Award and Compliance System (PACS).

This online system will serve as a one-stop-shop for grant proposal development, submission and award acceptance, as well as for research protocol preparation, submission, review and approval, says Lisa Gilroy, assistant vice president for sponsored programs and chair of the project leadership committee for statewide implementation.

PACS, which will eventually replace the COEUS system now used by researchers seeking external funding, will be phased in over the course of the next 18 months or so. Modules focused on human subjects research review, safety and agreements will be the first ones available.

PACS is the result of a statewide, multi-year initiative. “PACS will better serve the University community via streamlined processes, transparency and improved communication,” Gilroy says. “I’m eager to see it in use and looking forward to exploring ways that it may also enhance collaboration across the SUNY system.”

The Division of Research will hold an open house during Binghamton Research Days to give faculty members a chance to test drive the new system. That session is planned from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, April 20 in UU-202. Email pacs@binghamton.edu for more information.
