Fleishman Center Spring Job and Internship Fair
The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development hosted the Spring 2017 Job and Internship Fair Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Events Center. More than 110 employers represented an array of industries with companies ranging from BAE Systems, Eli Lily, Epic Systems, General Dynamics, GlobalFoundries, Grant Thornton, IBM, Macy’s, Peace Corps, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, RSM, Ross Stores and Target among others. Nearly 1,500 students attended the fair and learned about potential full- and part-time employment and internship opportunities.
The Fleishman Center worked to ensure students were well-prepared for this important recruitment event by holding programs leading up to the fair. One day prior, the Fleishman Center co-hosted with the Binghamton University Marketing Association a “Marketing Night Employer Panel and Networking Program” attended by 200 students, along with an “Employer Mock Interview Blitz” in which six employers conducted nearly 40 mock interviews. This allowed students to learn the most effective interview techniques from the employer perspective. The fall 2017 fair is already planned for Thursday, Sept. 14.
Student Support Services: TRIO and TRIO Days
Saturday, February, 25 students and staff from the Binghamton University and Cornell University TRIO Programs joined together on the Binghamton campus for National TRIO Day to celebrate, reflect and act. TRIO is a set of federally-funded programs that help students from disadvantaged backgrounds attain higher education. The day included TRIO Talks, where student speakers gave five- to seven-minute talks about their stories, the adversity they have overcome and the success they have achieved because of their persistence and support from those around them. These moving speeches were the highlight of the day and left the audience in tears. The day also included other activities focused around celebration, reflection and action including a postcard/letter writing campaign, a fundraiser for Mom’s House and a keynote speech by motivational speaker and TRIO alumnus Richard Taylor, Jr.
