The Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science

Global Engagement

Globalization opens up a world of possibilities for both businesses and academia, but also presents the challenge of interacting with people from diverse cultures. The Watson School is providing ways for students, alumni and faculty to benefit from its international network.

As you enter the workforce, a large portion of US-based jobs will require international experience and/or a demonstrated willingness to participate in the global workforce. Learning about cultures, people and languages first-hand is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences a student can have but an experience with lasting results.

Student Groups

The Watson School has forged partnerships with various universities around the globe in order to set up programming for students of both institutions.

Several of the partnerships have been established specifically to create dual diploma, 2+2, 2+3, and 3.5+1.5 programs.

These programs promote diversity at Binghamton University while providing partnership students the opportunity to study at Binghamton for a shortened period of time. This ensures that the student gets academic experience in 2 cultures, which can open up even more opportunities for the students.

2 + 2 Programs

2 years at home institution & 2 years at Binghamton University.

Student will have an undergraduate degree from Binghamton University.

Dual Diploma Programs

2 years at home institution & 2 years at Binghamton University.

Students will have undergraduate degree from both  home university and Binghamton University

Note: In some cases, the curriculums within the partnership will require students to spend extra time achieving their degree, sometimes the split is 3+2 or 2+3.

3 + 2 Program

3 years at home institution working toward undergraduate degree & 2 years at Binghamton University

Students apply to Binghamton in third year of study at home institution and, if accepted, are conditionally admitted into the graduate program at Binghamton University.

During 2 years in Binghamton, students complete requirements for an undergraduate degree from their home university and earn a master’s degree from Binghamton University.

3.5 + 1.5 Program

This program model is used mostly within our SSIE department.

3.5 years at home institution working toward undergraduate degree

Students apply to Binghamton University graduate program in spring of 3rd year and are conditionally admitted into the graduate program.

1.5 years at Binghamton, finishing undergraduate degree from home university and earning Binghamton master’s degree
