World Languages

Required Student Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • exhibit basic proficiency in the understanding and use of a world language; and
  • demonstrate knowledge of the distinctive features of culture(s) associated with the language they are studying.

Guidelines

  • World Language courses are designated WL1 (first-level course), WL2 (second-level course) or WL3 (third-level course).  Courses at the fourth level (i.e., GERM 204, FREN 215, etc. can also be designated WL3.  If students take a course above WL3 to fulfill the World Language requirement, it is handled via degree audit exception as few students select this option.
  • World Language courses must include speaking, listening, written, and reading components.
