The adjustment to online learning can be a tough one, but Binghamton has provided plenty of resources to assist international students to accommodate academic as well as personal needs so that our students can continue to excel during these challenging times.

  Professors and TAs are willing to answer questions, discuss any problems you may be having and suggest other support resources during their office hours. It’s much more effective to communicate any challenges face to face - even if it’s over Zoom. All you need to do is reach out and set up a meeting.

  Supplemental Instruction is a great way to get into a peer-led, group study environment. SI is set up for courses that students traditionally find challenging. It is open to any students enrolled in those courses and is led by undergraduates who have previously taken those courses.  SI Leaders are also trained as Peer Success Coaches, which means that they can help you identify barriers to your academic success.

  The Writing Center offers tutoring online for any of your writing needs. Tutors can help you with essays, arguments, research papers, reports, lab reports and more. They can also help you develop your critical reading, presentation and citation skills.

  If you don’t like presenting in front of a class, the Speaking Center is the place for you! The center provides peer-to-peer consulting, which creates a risk-free environment where you can practice and develop your skills. You can work on your public speaking, your oral presentation preparation and delivery skills, and get constructive feedback to help you improve.

  Success Coaching is another great resource to help you identify potential barriers to your academic success. The Department of Student Transition and Success provides coaching from peers and professionals. You will have access to personalized one-on-one coaching appointments, weekly supportive accountability groups, workshops and access to virtual resources. You can also work on creating a personal success plan that can include goal setting, time management, organization and more. There is a solution for everyone!

  If you struggle with technology, you can take an orientation course to online learning. This course is free for students and helps you navigate platforms like MyCourses, Zoom, Panopto and Starfish.

  The combination of an ongoing pandemic and a new online learning environment can be extremely stressful. Everyone is still trying to navigate through a difficult transitional period. If you find yourself struggling and in need of support, the University Counseling Center provides clinical and referral services. The center is a resource for your psychological well-being.

  If you are in need of additional support with emotional or academic difficulties, the CARE Team (Consultation, Advocacy, Referral and Education) works to ensure student success through guidance, communication, problem solving and advocacy. They work to empower students with a holistic approach that focuses on education and personal development.

  Every student has to go through the struggle of course selection, scheduling and degree planning. These decisions are stressful and often tricky to figure out. Luckily, academic advising resources are still available virtually to provide support for concerns like academic policies and procedures.

There are resources all around you, even right where students live: the residential communities! Collegiate professors are a great support system for students looking for advice and guidance, whether you have questions about academic or non-academic concerns.
