Cordelia Martin-Ikpe, PhD, MPH
Assistant Professor
Background
Cordelia Martin-Ikpe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana Studies and Global Public Health Program at Binghamton University. A health geographer by training, she conducts interdisciplinary research utilizing spatial methods to address pressing public health challenges, with a focus on structural inequities.
Her research explores racial health disparities, particularly among urban aging populations. She employs spatial analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to investigate how neighborhood characteristics, environmental health factors—such as air pollution and extreme heat—and broader social determinants influence health outcomes. Martin-Ikpe’s expertise includes applied data analysis using national health surveys and U.S. Census data to inform equity-driven public health interventions.
Her work contributes critical insights into the intersections of race, environment and health in urban contexts. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, including the American Association of Geographers (AAG) and the Race, Ethnicity, and Place Conference. Beyond her research, Martin-Ikpe is deeply committed to mentoring students, guiding their academic and professional growth through collaborative research projects.
