Victoria Stento, 13, left, and Emilee Mayers, 12, both entering eighth grade, perform an experiment to see if cellulase enzymes can breakdown cellulose. The students were attending Binghamton University's Go Green Institute summer program, which brings together about 50 of the Southern Tier's brightest middle-school students for an intensive 10-day, hands-on learning experience centered on the theme of a greener living environment.
