Background

Mariah Donohue studies how gut microbiomes impact the ecology and evolution of animal hosts. She is especially interested in understanding:

  1.  How co-diversification shapes host ecological niche
  2. How microbiomes mediate antagonistic plant-herbivore interactions, and
  3. The role of microbiome divergence in host speciation.

She examines these questions using wild lemurs in Madagascar and frogs in the northeastern United States.
