Connections for Success Retreat Earns Silver Award from NASPA

The Fleishman Center is thrilled to announce its recognition from NASPA's 2017-2018 Excellence Awards as a Silver Award Winner for Careers, Academic Advising and Support. The Center received this award for its Connections for Success program.

The NASPA Foundation is a national association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of Higher Education and Student Affairs in higher education. This award is an honor — but it is also an affirmation of the dedicated staff members who work tirelessly to offer Binghamton University students the best preparation for career success.

Students and Alumni Networking at CFSThe Connections for Success retreat is designed to engage sophomore students — a traditionally underserved campus population — in enriching personal, professional, and leadership experiences. This weekend-long program held off-campus is led by alumni and employers who develop interactive sessions to help students gain leadership and professional skills: skills that will make students competitive applicants for jobs and internships.

To avoid financial barriers and welcome all students to participate in the retreat, this program is free of charge, and gives priority to first-generation college students within the Educational Opportunity Program and TRIO Student Support Services.

This year, Connections for Success will take place from March 16-18, marking the third annual run of the retreat, which has become one of the Fleishman Center's signature programs.

Lexie Avery and Dr. Kelli K. Smith of the Fleishman Center will be presenting on the Connections for Success program at the NASPA Annual Conference on Tuesday, March 6 from 3:40-4:30 p.m. The talk will share details of the retreat, stories of student-alumni collaboration and networking, ways to adapt this program to different campus environments and budgets, as well as data on positive student outcomes of the program.
