Background

Kaitlyn Sorenson is Assistant Professor of Contemporary European Thought and Literature. Her research focuses on the intellectual and cultural history of Central and Eastern Europe, and she has published articles in Slavic Review, Forum for Modern Language Studies, European Review, South Atlantic Quarterly and the recent collected volume Med majem '68 in novembrom '89: transformacije sveta, literature in teorije (Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences, ed. Marko Juvan). She has also translated Slovene texts by Aleš Šteger and Mladen Dolar. She is currently working on two book projects: the first, The Cutting Edge: Theory and the Avant-Garde in Ljubljana, is an intellectual history of the Ljubljana School. The second, Nonaligned Praxis, focuses on a moment in Yugoslav history that saw both the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement and the emergence of the Yugoslav Praxis School. At Binghamton, she teaches courses that interweave voices from both the center and periphery of Continental theory and literature.
