Garrett ImbrendaPolitano, LMSW
Senior Counselor
Background
Garrett ImbrendaPolitano (they/them) grew up on Long Island before attending college at Binghamton University, graduating with a Bachelor’s in psychology. They then completed their Master’s of Social Work at Binghamton University in 2015 before moving to Binghamton permanently to serve the needs of the area. Since then, they have worked in several settings including local school districts and varying levels of care with substance use disorder clients.
They use a generalist practice to help support clients, including motivational interviewing and DBT techniques. Ultimately, they work with the client to help them gain an understanding of themselves and their behaviors and empower them to create change and differences in their lives and world around them. They also focus on the intersectionality of identities and the multiple systems that may impact an individual’s mental health struggles.
Their clinical interests include substance use disorder treatment, trauma, PTSD, policy advocacy, grief and loss, and family systems. They are passionate when it comes to social justice and equitable policy initiatives, especially as they relate to LGTBQIA+ populations. In their free time, you will find them at the movies, reading comics, watching the latest hit series, and spending time with their family.
