Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Background

Rachel Wangari Kimani is a clinical associate professor in the Division of Nursing at Binghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She joined the faculty in November 2024 and teaches in Decker's graduate nursing programs, focusing on community and family nurse practitioner education.

With over 15 years of nursing experience, including nurse practitioner roles and clinical research, Kimani brings expertise in community health, translational science and global health to Binghamton. Her research employs the biopsychosocial model to investigate allostatic load stress, the interconnectedness of physical and mental health, and the broader social and structural factors that influence these complexities. Kimani's work emphasizes health equity and care ethics, focusing on the ethical integration of clinical decision-making tools and research to create inclusive and equitable healthcare systems worldwide.
