An important notice about end-of-year gifts to support Binghamton University
The end of the year is fast approaching. The University strives to balance providing services to our constituents with staff taking time off to enjoy the holidays. Staffing on campus is likely to be at a minimum during the final week of December, but it will still be possible to make a gift to support the University before the close of the calendar year.
Gifts Received Online
Credit card gifts received and approved/authorized on the Binghamton University Foundation’s giving website by 11:59 p.m. EST, Dec. 31, 2024, will be credited as 2024 gifts. Such gifts are approved and authorized instantaneously at the time the gift is submitted. Gifts Received Through the Mail
Cash/Check Gifts (U.S. Postal Service) — Gifts made by cash or check that are sent via the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) must be postmarked on or before Dec. 31, 2024, in order to be credited as a 2024 gift.
- Gifts made by cash or check that are sent through the USPS and received after Jan. 1, 2025, will be credited as a 2024 gift only if the postmark reads on or before Dec. 31, 2024, and the check is dated for 2024. Gifts postmarked in January with checks dated in December 2024 must be credited to 2025.
Cash/Check Gifts (Private Mail/Shipping Services) – Gifts made by cash or check that are sent via any private mail or shipping service (e.g., Federal Express, UPS, etc.) must be delivered on or before Dec. 31, 2024, in order to be credited as a 2024 gift.
- Gifts made by cash or check that are sent through any private mail or shipping service and received after Jan. 1, 2025, will be credited as a 2025 gift.
Credit Card Gifts (Any Mailing Method) – Gifts made by credit card must be received and processed by Foundation staff by 2 p.m. EST, Dec. 31, 2024, in order to be credited as a 2024 gift.
- Gifts made by credit card must be processed through the Binghamton University Foundation’s credit card terminal in 2024 (with the charge authorized by the donor’s bank) in order for the gift to be counted and receipted in 2024. Any credit card gift not received and processed by 2 p.m. EST, Dec. 31, 2024, will be credited as a 2025 gift. To avoid delays or proper crediting, we recommend anyone wishing to give by credit card make their gift online so that gifts are approved and authorized instantaneously at the time the gift is submitted.
Stock Gifts
Donors wishing to make an end-of-year gift by stock are encouraged to make the gift by electronic transfer so that stock certificates sent through the mail are not held up due to limited staffing during this time. It is strongly encouraged that 2024 stock donations be received and processed by end of day Dec. 24, 2024.

or the appropriate development staff member. - Electronic transfers will be processed through our broker, Leo O’Connor Sr. at Visions
Wealth Management, but donors are asked to please notify Sheila Doyle at 607-777-3844 or email sdoyle@binghamton.edu of their gift intent first and estimated date of the transfer. A letter of intent stating the purpose of your gift/gift designation, the number of shares being donated
and the name of the stock are required.

- Receipts for stock gifts will be dated with the actual date of the transfer of the stock. Therefore, if the transfer was completed by Dec. 31, 2024, the gift will be credited as a 2024 gift.
