Celia M. Klin, Dean of Harpur College
Harpur College of Arts and Sciences is the historical and intellectual heart of Binghamton
University, which began as Triple Cities College in 1946. When Harpur College joined
the newly created State University of New York system in 1950, it was one of only
two liberal arts colleges. For more than 70 years, Harpur has striven to live up to
its motto “From breadth through depth to perspective.”
Our talented faculty are engaged in a broad range of scholarly endeavors, creative
activities and research that seek to address some of the world's most fascinating
and pressing problems. They are also dedicated teachers who are committed providing
a rigorous liberal arts education by engaging with students in the classroom, laboratory,
studio and field, and on the theater stage.
In our increasingly complex and global world, the liberal arts have become even more
important than they were at Harpur’s founding. Not only does an education in the liberal
arts prepare students for a rapidly changing job market, it helps them develop the
ability to think deeply and critically about the world around them.
With a history tied to the origins of Binghamton University, Harpur College offers
a wide array of exciting opportunities. We invite you to explore the possibilities
that await you at Harpur College, and to help us write the next chapter of our unfolding
story.
