Our collections include manuscripts, university archives, rare books, maps, photographs, digitized images, oral histories, and more.  Not finding what you were searching for? The Special Collections staff offer research assistance virtually and in person. Send an email to speccoll@binghamton.edu with your queries and to set up appointments.

Many manuscript and archival collections have finding aids (guides to the collections and container lists), which can be searched in the finding aid database.  Please note that not all finding aids are available online yet.

The majority of the books and printed material held by Special Collections as well as some of the manuscript and archival collections are searchable through the online catalog, Find It! Limit search to Special Collections materials by selecting "Special Collections" under the Libraries/Collections facet in Find It!

  • University and Faculty Archives
    A collection of materials relating to Binghamton University
  • Rare Books and Printed Materials
    Over 100,000 volumes, ranging from 15th through present-day.
  • Manuscript Collections
    Collections include original materials of local, regional, and international interest.
  • Civil War Collections
    Consist of letters, diaries, photographs and ephemera, principally from individuals and families from the Southern Tier and central New York State.

  • Media and Objects
    Collections contain audio recordings, film, photographs, artwork, original maps and plans, artifacts, and other realia within them
  • Digital Collections
    Collection includes photographs, postcards, and oral histories
  • Max Reinhardt Archives
    Covers major aspects of the life and career of Austrian-born theatrical director and producer Max Reinhardt (1873-1943)
  • Link Collections
    Include papers and books donated by Edwin A. Link, his wife Marion Clayton Link, the Link Foundation and Hughes Training, Inc.
  • Saeedpour Kurdish Collection
    Collection contains more than 3,000 books, journals and newspapers in Kurdish and other languages. The collection also holds artifacts, costumes, maps, photographs, artwork and other unique materials

Although materials in Special Collections can't be checked out, our staff are available to help you find and use materials in our reading room. See Visit Special Collections for more information. In some cases the collections may be stored off-site and will take up to 48 hours for retrieval.
