11 Best Things to Do in Binghamton This Spring

Spring Fling

​Spring Fling is the ultimate spring event on campus for Binghamton students and it is easily my favorite. From club tabling to carnival rides and food, it’s a day students look forward to all year. It ends with performances from indie-pop duo Surfaces, electronic dance music producer Imanbek and From the Bronx, a student band who won the Student Association Programming Board’s Battle of the Bands.

Earth Day

Each year to celebrate our planet and being green, an Earth Day festival takes place with performances and speeches. All earthlings are welcome to come and appreciate our home.

Baseball Games

Binghamton is lucky to have two teams to watch during baseball season: the Binghamton University Bearcats and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Catch a Division I game on campus at the new stadium or head downtown to Mirabito Stadium to see the Rumble Ponies. Don’t forget the essentials, like team merch and a good hot dog.

Moefest

Enjoy live music? Binghamton’s Moefest is hosted every April by campus radio station WHRW and brings together some great underground performers for a whole day of performances!

Commencement

A culmination of all the memories, education and success completed during your time at Binghamton, Commencement ceremonies will take place from May 10 to May 14. Be sure to be on the lookout for other celebrations, like the Champagne Send-Off and Grad Fest, so you’re ready to walk the stage.

Restaurant Week

Restaurant Week returns every spring with great deals on great food in the downtown area. Restaurants like Lost Dog Cafe and 205 Dry offer fixed-price, three-course meals, with some of the proceeds going to charity. It’s the perfect opportunity to have a nice meal with friends on a college-friendly budget!

Rent

The Binghamton Theatre Department returns this spring with Rent! The story of a diverse group of young, struggling artists trying to make their way in Manhattan is told through rock melodies and dance numbers. Tickets for the show are already on sale; opening night is April 21!

Anderson Center Shows

From comedy ballet shows to operas to jazz ensembles, the Anderson Center has something for every type of audience member. Students get discounted ticket prices, so grab some friends and see a show. Check out the entire list of performances here.

Binghamton Parks

Some of Binghamton’s best hidden gems are the gorgeous parks close by. Of course, we have the Nature Preserve on campus, but parks like Ostiningo, Chenango Valley and Nathaniel Cole are popular places off campus for hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities all year round.

Jillian McCarthy is an intern for the Office of Media and Public Relations, and a junior majoring in English. She hopes to become an entertainment journalist. In her free time she loves to play guitar, watch movies and read.

Chloe Van Caeseele is an intern for the Office of Media and Public Relations, and a senior majoring in anthropology with a minor in linguistics. She is also a campus tour guide and a resident assistant in Hinman College. In her free time, she loves to ski, take spin classes and watch (too much) reality TV.
