How Binghamton University’s Campus Has Improved Over The Summer

While many students may be away from campus over the summer, we have been hard at work finishing projects to make campus look even better for the fall! Check out the upgrades you will see when you return!

Hinman Dining Hall had a major renovation

Hinman Dining Construction

Hinman Dining Hall has seen massive renovations that students will reap the benefits of. The 55-year-old building will showcase a brand-new servery and dining facility with nine service platforms and expanded seating. It also includes the addition of 26,500 square feet and a third floor, which includes a garden terrace and patio. The increased space will allow for more area-wide programs, Hinman College Council (HCC) meetings, a convenience store, student culinary makerspace, study/gathering space and the return of Starbucks!

We spruced up our residential communities

Students living on-campus will see many improvements in their residence halls this fall. Renovations include work on doors, flooring, countertops, windows, tubs and showertop replacements.

We have a new outdoor gym

Campus Recreation is unveiling its newest quality of life addition outside the East Gym, FitCourt! It is a sleek and modern outdoor gym that allows students to use their own body weight to get a complete workout and has an accompanying mobile app!

Our science buildings are getting upgraded

Science 2 and 4

Both the Science 2 and Science 4 building renovations are continuing. In Science 4, energy-efficient materials have been installed on the exterior of the building. In Science 2, work continues on a project that will see new office space, labs for graduate students and conferencing space. Tower 2 is expected to be complete in Spring 2022 and Science 4 expected completion is in Fall 2021.

The University’s healthcare hub in Johnson City continues to expand. The Health Sciences Building fifth and sixth floors are coming together rapidly. These will house programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language pathology, along with joint space for an Upstate Medical University Clinic. It is expected to be ready by the beginning of the fall semester!

Work has begun on a new Innovation Lab

There are a lot of great things happening at Bartle Library! Construction began in March on a new Innovation Lab that will provide a physical home for the Innovation Scholars program. Renovations on the ground floor began in April, and starting in October the third floor is being completely redone as part of a three-year renovation project that will include the installation of new flooring, ceilings and lighting.

A bike trail will connect campus to downtown

Greenway project

Want to get from campus to downtown, but don’t have a car? The state is working on a new 2.5-mile pedestrian and bicycle path connecting the University to downtown Binghamton. This will increase both the safety and walkability of our campus and community. (Photo courtesy of WNBF).

The Baseball Stadium Complex is nearing completion

Bearcats baseball field construction

One of the most visible construction projects on campus is the new Baseball Stadium Complex, located near the Bunn Hill Road entrance to campus. This exciting new stadium is expected to open in spring 2022. Exterior work is nearly completed, with the facility’s lights looming over the field. Work will soon begin on a new clubhouse, training facility, locker rooms, offices, study areas and athletic training room.
